Marine Geology Solutions is owned and directed by James Wiltshire.

James is a Senior Engineering Geologist with over 15 years of marine experience (offshore & coastal) in both contractor and consulting companies. Specialising in offshore client site representation but also competent in the supervision & management of survey crew, seabed characterisation & sampling techniques, evaluation of geotechnical & geophysical data, design of ground investigations, and the creation of geological ground models.

Undertaken contracts for the development of offshore wind farms, subsea power cables, oil & gas platforms and pipelines, and coastal construction.

Proven to be able to introduce and maintain a strong safe working ethic into the vessel & crews, along with bringing together reporting systems, regular auditing & inspection, and thorough incident investigation.

A strong academic background of relevant offshore research topics  together with training on research cruises with premier oceanographic organisations such as the Woods Hole Institute, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Alfred Wegner Institute, GeoForschungsZentrum, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Familiar with all primary geotechnical, geophysical and environmental site investigation techniques such as:

• Borehole Geotechnical; wireline WIP sampler/CPT, rotary coring, triple-tube coring.
• Borehole Geophysics; P-S logging, seismic/thermoconductivity/magnetometry CPT, Gamma source logging, high pressure dilatometer.
• Seabed Geotechnical: Vibrocoring, drop/piston coring, wheel-drive and flexible-rod CPT, deep-push CPT, hydraulic power grab, boxcoring.
• Shallow Geophysics; side-scan sonar, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler,  sparker/boomer/chirp UHRS, ROV TSS gradiometer.
• Benthic; camera ROV, drop camera, day/hammon/van-veen grab, water sampler.
